Building Futures Together

500 Women. One Vision. One Lasting Legacy.

There are moments in life that call us to look beyond ourselves.

Moments that remind us that while we cannot change everything, together we can change something profound.

The 500 Mums movement was founded by the Lionhearted Foundation, in collaboration with Katie Johnston from It’s Wild by Katie, as part of our Legacy pillar.

It was created from a simple belief:

When women come together with compassion, purpose and collective action, extraordinary things become possible.

Today, we are inviting 500 women to help create a lasting legacy for some of Uganda’s most vulnerable children.

Our Goal

500 Women × $500 = $250,000

Building a permanent home and educational sanctuary for vulnerable children in Uganda.

Together, 500 women giving $500 each will help create a safe place where children can live, learn, grow and thrive.

A place of safety.

A place of belonging.

A place of hope.

A place they can finally call home.

Why We Started 500 Mums

At Lionhearted, our vision is simple:

Building Confident Girls, Grounded Women and Lasting Impact.

Our Legacy pillar exists to create meaningful and lasting change beyond our own lives.

When we learned about the work being undertaken by Katie Johnston and the children supported through Home of Good Children in Uganda, we knew we wanted to help.

Katie has spent years supporting vulnerable children and families in Uganda and has personally purchased the land for a future home and educational sanctuary.

The vision is clear.

To create a permanent place of safety for orphaned and rescued street children.

A place where children can sleep in a bed rather than on the street.

A place where they can attend school.

A place where they can receive nourishment, emotional support and stability.

A place they can finally call home.

Lionhearted Foundation established the 500 Mums movement to stand beside Katie and help bring this vision to life.

Together, we believe we can build something extraordinary.

The Challenge

Our goal is to raise $250,000 AUD by Christmas 2026 to help build the infrastructure required for the children’s future home and education centre.

This includes:

  • Safe accommodation
  • Beds and bedrooms
  • Learning spaces
  • Bathrooms and sanitation facilities
  • Kitchen and dining facilities
  • Community spaces
  • Ongoing support infrastructure

This project is not about temporary relief.

It is about creating a permanent foundation for generations of children who will need safety, stability and opportunity.

Why 500 Mums?

Because change becomes possible when many people contribute a little.

If 500 women each contribute $500, together we will raise $250,000.

You can contribute:

  • A one off donation of $500
  • Approximately $35 per week
  • Approximately $140 per month

Every contribution helps move us closer to our goal.

Most importantly, every contribution reminds a child that they matter.

What Your Donation Creates

Your donation helps create:

Our Partnership with Katie Johnston

The 500 Mums movement was founded by Lionhearted Foundation to support the extraordinary work of Katie Johnston and the children of Uganda.

Many people know Katie through her business, It’s Wild by Katie, her television appearances and her advocacy work. What sits beneath all of that is a deep commitment to helping vulnerable children build safer and brighter futures.

After witnessing firsthand the challenges faced by children who had experienced homelessness, abandonment and loss, Katie committed herself to creating lasting change.

She personally purchased the land that will become the future home and educational sanctuary for these children.

Lionhearted Foundation is proud to stand beside Katie through our Legacy pillar and help mobilise women across Australia and beyond to bring this vision to life.

Katie’s powerful story and the inspiration behind this project are featured in Issue 9 of Lionhearted Magazine.
